International promotion of ASL and BiSL is one of the key issues of the ASL BiSL Foundation this year.
Forming an International Working Group with Exin, Van Haren Publishing, Bita-center, Quint Wellington Redwood, Fortis, Getronics and the Dutch Police Forces, the ASL BiSL Foundation aims to promote these frameworks and best practices worldwide.
The ASL and BiSL frameworks have achieved a growing degree of acceptance by both IT Service Providers (mostly using ASL) and user organizations (BiSL), which frequently specify adherence to ASL when outsourcing application management work. Both are fast becoming increasingly popular around the globe: recent research carried out by Dimension Data (2008), discovered that 32% of organizations are engaged with the ASL framework, even higher than CMMi, the de facto standard for high quality application development.
ASL, the Application Services Library, is currently the only public domain application management standard in the world. BiSL, its sister series: the Business Information Systems Library, is a public domain standard for business information management. The frameworks provide specific guidance for managers and practitioners in the application management and business information management domains and easily interface with other generic frameworks such as ISO/IEC20000 and ITIL®.
